Elmer - Old English boys name that originates from the now obsolete Old English Æthelmær,
a compound name composed of the elements æthel, (noble) and mær (famous): hence, the modern meaning of "noble and famous."

Somewhat unexpectedly I have added a new section A stallion to the herd – it was unplanned but when I saw this delightful stallion he just had to come home with me. Elmer is a real old fashioned welsh mountain pony, with bone, feather, depth and substance all combined with a phenomenal front and great backend. A big, bold and kind eye and a beautiful head are the icing on the cake. Now 13 years old this little known stallion has been very much under-used – he was at Dagwood Stud from weaning until 8 years old, he was shown very successfully winning countless championships and going Supreme Champion but only covered a handful of mares before being sold on to a small stud in Kent where for the last 5 years he has covered only a couple of mares.

He is beautifully bred – out of Springbourne Ebrill who is by Penual Mark and out of Dundon Elf who was by the Treharne Tomboy. Dundon Elf was a prolific winner and as founder of the E line at Springbourne she was the dam of many champions including Ebrill, Erian and Elfen. Treharne Tomboy was shown by Springbourne from 1967 to 1970 in which time he won over 70 championships and won HOYS twice before being exported to New Zealand. It is therefore no surprise that Ebrill was also a profilic winner and champion in hand. As well as producing Supreme Champion Springbourne Elmer, Ebrill was also dam to the prizewinning colt Eclipse and Elmer’s full sister Elinor (sold to Holland). The E line has been very successful at Springbourne with countless champions, medal winners and sales toppers.

Elmer’s sire is the exceptional stallion Springbourne Caraway – an unparalleled 10 times sire ratings topper for the Welsh Section As, Reserve Champion Royal Welsh Show, M&M Ridden Champion NPS, Champion at Northleach both in hand and under saddle, Youngstock Champion Section A Royal Welsh Show, Glanusk winner and Champion Section A, Champion HCWPA under saddle, and many more. Perhaps more importantly Caraway’s stock have been just as successful as he has in the show ring with Supreme Champion and Royal Welsh winning offspring too many to mention. With both Caraway and Ebrill being by the legendary Penual Mark, Elmer is linebred to this Supreme Champion and top-stockgetter and has Mark’s exceptional bone, feather and type combined with Caraway’s pure quality.
